Newton D. Baker served as Secretary of War under President Wilson during the First World War during which time he was responsible for drafting, organizing and outfitting an army of two million men. He was a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Hague and championed the League of Nations.
He was a leading partner of the Cleveland law firm Baker, Hostetler and Sidlow.
